Optimum Size of Hybrid Renewable Energy System to Supply the Electrical Loads of the Northeastern Sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Due to the unpredictable nature of renewable sources such as sun and wind, integration a grid is complicated. However, hybrid energy system (HRES) can solve this problem. Constructing reliable HRES in remote areas essential. Therefore, paper proposes new methodology incorporating crow search algorithm (CSA) for optimizing scale an installed area. The constructed comprises photovoltaic (PV) panels, wind turbines (WTs), batteries, diesel generators (DGs). target achieve most economical efficient use (RESs). CSA used it simple implementation, only requires few parameters, has high flexibility. designed serve electrical load northeastern region Kingdom Saudi Arabia. data are provided by Electricity Company, including those Aljouf (Sakaka, Alqurayyat, Tabarjal, Dumat Aljandal, its villages) northern border (Arar, Tarif, Rafha, affiliated villages). temperature, irradiance, speed (latitude 29.764° longitude 40.01°) collected from National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) 1 January 31 December 2020. Three design factors considered: PV number, WT number days battery autonomy (AD). We compared our results reported approaches elephant herding optimizer (EHO), grasshopper optimization (GOA), Harris hawks (HHO), seagull (SOA), spotted hyena (SHO). Moreover, loss power supply probability (LPSP) calculated assess system’s reliability. proposed COA succeeded achieving best fitness values 0.03883 USD/kWh, 0.03863 0.04585 USD/kWh PV/WT/battery, PV/battery, WT/battery systems, respectively. obtained confirmed superiority approach providing configuration others.
